 | 05:19 am Where do I find McCormick California Style Minced Onion? The H-E-B closest to me (S. Congress and Oltorf) stopped selling it and now only sells onion powder, and I'd rather use minced onion.
I don't remember if the location at Riverside and Pleasant Valley carries it; same goes for Central Market at Westlake. I take the bus, and I'd rather not ride all over town looking for this product, so any help is appreciated.
Also, for the record, H-E-B is now carrying Ziyad products (they make my favorite falafel mix).

 | 02:38 am - Lime Powder? Where in Austin can I find lime powder? I've looked in a couple of groceries and haven't been able to find it, so rather than continuing to waste time and gas driving wound looking for it, I thought I'd ask here.

 | 11:17 pm - Halp, vet My cat is suddenly showing signs of having a urinary blockage or a urinary tract infection, and the interwebs basically say to find a vet asap.
I haven't lived in Austin very long, haven't needed a vet until now, and am not sure where to go.
I am very short on cash until Friday, but am not one to wait when it comes to the health of my cats. Can anyone recommend a vet that operates on a sliding scale, or a payment plan, or isn't too expensive, or something? I don't have credit cards, and would not be able to get care credit or anything like that.
I live just a little NE of the UT campus. I'm willing to drive a bit if it means a good, trustworthy vet.
That said, has anyone had a male cat with a urinary tract infection or blockage, that can give me advice/tips/stories?

 | 08:15 pm - another dentist post I've searched through the dentist tags and found somethings that were helpful to me, but nothing that was helpful to my boyfriend.
I have Guardian dental insurance through my job, he has Assurant through UT. Ideally we'd like to go to the same dentist, but searching through his "find a dentist" thing is pretty limited. Does anyone have any experience with:
Omni Dental Group ALAN C WILLIAMS DDS ROSE DENTAL GROUP JAMES T CORDERA?
I've read nothing but terrible things about Castle Dental so they're not even included on my list.
Thanks.

| 04:24 pm - Police: Scaffolds at 21 Rio apartments were assembled incorrectly
http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/blotter/entries/2009/07/13/police_scaffolds_at_21_rio_apa.html?cxntfid=blogs_the_blotter Austin police have issued a search warrant for a West Campus apartment building where three construction workers fell to their deaths in June, saying scaffolding equipment used there was negligently assembled and may have caused the workers’ deaths.
Wilson Joel Irias Cerritos, Raudel Ramirez Camacho and Jesus Angel Lopez Perez were killed June 10 after falling from the upper stories of the 21 Rio apartment development at 2101 Rio Grande Street. The accident has been under investigation by Austin police and the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
A search warrant dated July 10 resulted in the seizure of parts from a mast climber, a platform scaffold device the workers used to scale the outer wall of the building. An examination of the parts used in the mast climber alleges that employees “negligently erected the unit and used parts and materials which are substandard and/or graded below the weight limit needed to support this type of work and loading,” the warrant said.
Such actions may constitute criminally negligent homicide, a state jail felony, the warrant said.

 | 02:25 pm - Visiting Family My little brother, who is but 16 years old, is coming to visit me for a week. He will be here from the 11th of August until the 19th. I have no idea what to do to entertain him during this time. He is interested in music, mostly of a hardcore nature and he has a passion for video games (i.e. WOW and Rock Band). He enjoys being out and about, but he is not accustomed to the heat here (we are native Oregonians.)
Please send entertainment suggestions.....
Thank you.

| 01:55 pm - Woman accused of pointing gun at husband
http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/blotter/entries/2009/07/13/woman_accused_of_pointing_gun.html?cxntfid=blogs_the_blotter An Austin woman has been charged with aggravated assault after police say she threatened her husband with a gun after she accused him of calling an escort service, according to an arrest affidavit.
Stephanie Rounds, 34, told police that she discovered her husband, Chad Rounds, had been calling an escort service after accessing his cell phone records July 8, the affidavit says. The next day, Rounds began to hide several guns in her home, according to the affidavit said.
When Chad Rounds returned home with the couple’s children, Stephanie Rounds retrieved a loaded pistol from the kitchen and accused her husband of cheating on her, the document said. Stephanie Rounds told police that her husband, who had been sitting on the couch with their children, got off of the couch in an aggressive manner and told her she was a liar, the document said.
Stephanie Rounds told police that she kept the loaded gun pointed at her husband for some time and that she was afraid for her safety. Both she and her husband called 911, the document said.
Stephanie Rounds was arrested Thursday night and released Friday night on $10,000 bail.

 | 01:55 pm - Hamburger Bed

If big round bed made to look like a delicious cheeseburger isn't food porn, I don't know what is. If you've ever dreamed of diving into a larger-than-life sized hamburger, your dreams could come true. The world famous hamburger bed is on ebay! Imagine having this baby in your house, what a picker-upper. How could you ever have a bad day if you came home to this? Amazing.
Edit: FYI, I am not the owner/seller of this bed, so please don't lambaste me for self promotion (or give me undeserved brownie points). :)

| 12:08 pm - Police still seeking witnesses in Nikolas Evans' death
http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/blotter/entries/2009/07/13/austin_police_released_this_ph.html?cxntfid=blogs_the_blotter
More than three months after Nikolas Evans died from injuries he suffered during an altercation on Sixth Street, police have charged 28-year-old Eric Skeeter, right, with manslaughter in connection with the death.
“I’m bittersweetly happy,” said Evan’s mother, Marissa Evans, at a press conference this morning. Evans said that she is still asking for help in finding more witnesses to build a case against Skeeter.
“People still need to come forward,” she said.
Skeeter’s arrest was based on an an anonymous tip in April and video from the front of the Coyote Ugly bar, said police Detective David Fugitt, but the investigation is ongoing and could last for several more months, if not years. Police are searching for two women who may have been witnesses to the incident.
Police have said Evans, 21, was leaving a bar with a friend about 2 a.m. March 27 when they got into an argument with several men.
After that argument, police have said, another group approached Evans and his friend, and one of the men in that group hit both of them. Evans hit his head on the ground after he was punched, according to investigators.
Evans was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge, where he died of his injuries on April 5.
Marissa Evans received national attention when she asked for her son’s sperm to be collected post-mortem, giving her the chance to have a grandchild through a surrogate mother.
“I want him to live on,” Marissa Evans said at the time. “I want to keep a piece of him.”
She said Monday that they would not begin looking for a surrogate until after the trial. “I’ve grieved so much that I wouldn’t bring a child into the world right now,” she said.
She also said that she was surprised that many people thought her request for her son’s sperm was strange.
“I dare someone to lay with their son and know that you can’t see him again and then not think of that,” she said.
Skeeter was arrested Friday and is being held in the Travis County Jail on $150,000 bail, police said. He was on parole at the time of the arrest, according to court documents, but police could not comment on his prior convictions.
Police released the photo below of the two potential witnesses. A department spokesman said the third person in the photo is not part of the investigation. He could not say when and where the photo was taken.
Police are asking these two women, or anyone who knows them, to call 477-3588 or 974-5210.

 | 01:39 pm - Birth control Where do we unemployed women with no medical insurance or income go for birth control pills? Is Planned Parenthood my only option?
****edit**** I am aware I can get free condoms just about anywhere, but aside from not wanting to get pregnant, I actually have to be on the pill for medical reasons.
And nothing against Planned Parenthood, I was just told that the visits alone are $95. If I had that much extra money I'd just go to my regular doctor. Maybe I've been misinformed?

 | 01:23 pm So last night I decided to go to the hospital. The pain was unbearable so I finally decided to go. The doctors were real scared that I was in preterm labor, but thank god I'm not. The doctor said that it seems the muscle that holds my stomach up and supports it is too weak to carry the weight. I just so happened to have a few contractions on top of that which made it seem worse than it was. I'm still in pain today but its a little better. I'm on bed rest but I don't know for how long. I hope not the rest of the pregnancy :( It really sucks laying here and doing nothing except watching Scrubs and going online. I need to go get a support band but I'm going to wait for my mother to get home to go with me in case something happens. I wish it was at least nice outside so I could go sit out there but its cloudy and too hot :(

 | 12:12 pm - 2 Questions Ok, Austin, you have helped me a lot, so I am back.
I need a seamstress, I have a dress that needs the straps to be taken in some. I like parmer and 620 area, so someplace close to there that does not charge and arm and a leg would be good. People to stay away from too would be good.
Second question. I would like to get a manicure this week. I am on vacation, so I dont mind driving, so anywhere between 620 and downtown. I am not really willing to go further south than downtown. Who do you go to? Price is not a huge concern for me, this is a splurge on myself. :)
Thanks in advance!

| 11:33 am - Camp Swift fire 85 percent contained, officials say
http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/blotter/entries/2009/07/13/camp_swift_fire_85_percent_con.html?cxntfid=blogs_the_blotter A wildfire at Camp Swift, about seven miles north of Bastrop, spread to include at least 315 acres, according to Lexi Maxwell, information officer with the Texas Forest Service. The fire initially broke out around 4 p.m. Saturday.
Currently, the fire is 85 percent contained, and Camp Swift fire crews are working to contain and extinguish the remainder of the fire, Maxwell said.
Residents should refrain from any outdoor burning and be especially careful when disposing of smoking materials, Maxwell said. The area’s dry enough right now that even a discarded cigarette could spark a fire, she said.
